On February 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita went to grant medical equipment under the “GOOD HEALTH GOOD HEART” project to Khao Bin Central Prison, Nakhon Pathom Central Prison in Ratchaburi Province. At Khao Bin Central Prison there are currently a total of 2,896 inmates, with 158 inmates suffering from hypertension, 46 inmates dealing with diabetes, 43 being infected with HIV and 25 inmates in psychiatric care. Furthermore, inmates are suffering from other diseases such as tuberculosis, asthma, heart and brain vessel issues as well as eye diseases. In this matter the health department of Ratchaburi province took part in caring for the sick inmates as a host hospital and volunteers from the “GOOD HEALTH GOOD HEART” project, which includes providing doctors, nurses and volunteers from related areas. The inmates at Khao Bin Central Prison also receive dental services from the Volunteer Foundation of Medicine Somdet Phra Srinakharin 2 times a year. Additionally, dentist volunteers from Don Tum Hospital visit 1-2 times a month. Furthermore, Khao Bin Central Prison examines the treatment of inmates by Telemedicine. As for the Nakhon Pathom Hospital a VDO conference system has been established for psychiatric patients. Furthermore, there are plans to organize a VDO conference at the emergency department 24 hours a day, which is an innovation and a great process in the health department.
In this regard, HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita opened a cover for the "Health Corrections Pansuk" corner observed the demonstration of teaching and learning about public health in prison.
HRH then visited sick inmates and presented royal hospital bags to 3 representative inmates as well as 18 elderly inmates. Afterwards, HRH went to the exhibition area of the prisons and correctional institutions and hospitals to view the exhibition of the “GOOD HEALTH GOOD HEART” Project Volunteer exhibition which also includes the works of art and drawing made by the inmates. Then, HRH observed the bar slope yoga show of female Inmates from Ratchaburi Central Prison and the choir performance of the inmates of the Khao Bin Central Prison.
The implementation of the “GOOD HEALTH GOOD HEART” project does not only support the integration and cooperation between various departments but also focuses on the benefits for the inmates that happen by being able to access and receive medical care. Therefore, the project urges the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Justice to increase the efficiency in helping prisoners to have better access to medical and public health services in order to create content inmates, reducing anxiety about getting sick and also being a good example for other prisons throughout the country that are not yet covered by the project, as all inmates have an equal right to access medical treatment.
