Background of the Kamlangjai (Inspire) Project
Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati initiated the Kamlangjai (Inspire) Project in 2006 to support inmates in all dimensions, ensuring their quality reintegration into society. Recognizing that having a stable career or employment is a crucial factor in reducing recidivism, Her Royal Highness graciously provided guidelines for vocational training across various fields. These include:
Furthermore, Her Royal Highness emphasized modern professions that align with societal and technological shifts, such as elderly care and online retail.
Healthcare-related professions are also vital in today's changing environment. Society is shifting its focus from "treating when sick" to preventive healthcare, aiming for a longer and higher quality of life. The Kamlangjai Project Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, has consistently carried forward this royal vision.
The Healthcare Assistant Vocational Training Project
Chiang Mai Women's Correctional Institution holds female inmates with sentences up to life imprisonment. Currently, it houses 1,897 female inmates (as of June 9, 2026).
Adopting the royal guidelines, the institution launched the Healthcare Assistant Vocational Training Project through a collaborative integration between the Chiang Mai Women's Correctional Institution, Nakornping Hospital, and various healthcare networks. The project trains inmates to perform health screenings, promote wellness, and prevent diseases.
The training comprises 3 specialized curriculums (30 hours each):
This training program addresses market demands and the growing societal trend toward health awareness. It provides alternative career paths tailored to the diverse interests and talents of the inmates. This milestone demonstrates that Chiang Mai Women's Correctional Institution excels not only in traditional crafts like silk weaving, embroidery, and handicrafts but is also striving for excellence in healthcare professions. It showcases the vision and commitment of all sectors involved in advancing healthcare services within prisons, ensuring inmates receive equal basic healthcare rights, and successfully bridging health services with vocational training.
