The Office of Justice Innovation Development Conducts the “Wisdom Therapy for Enhancing the Quality of Life of Inmates” Project at Bang Kwang Central Prison
On November 11, 2025, the Office of Justice Innovation Development implemented the “Wisdom Therapy for Enhancing the Quality of Life of Inmates” project for death row inmates at Bang Kwang Central Prison, with the kind support of Phra Brahmasakayasuwatti (Anilman Thammacakiyo) serving as the main lecturer. A total of 15 participants attended the training.
This project focuses on improving the quality of life of inmates through the process of Cognitive Restructuring (CR), which is a psychological therapy technique designed to help participants:
- Identify distorted or unhelpful thoughts
- Evaluate those thoughts rationally
- Transform them into more balanced and constructive thoughts
The curriculum also connects the CR concepts with Buddhist teachings, explaining the importance of “the mind is paramount” based on relevant scriptures to help inmates understand that correct thinking leads to positive actions and outcomes in life.
Upon completing the training, participants will develop skills in self-awareness, emotional management, rational thinking, and problem-solving, and they will be able to apply the CR concepts in their daily lives. This foundational improvement is essential for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The Office of Justice Innovation Development hopes this project will contribute to promoting a better quality of life for inmates while supporting sustainable mental well-being development.
